Interesting promo for Stanley Kubrick retrospective in England.

This interesting little commercial is shot from the point of view of Stanley Kubrick. If you haven't seen his films it won't make sense.
Kubrick is one of the best directors ever. His films covered a wide range of topics and almost all are considered classics. Full Metal Jacket is one of my favorite films. When Western Film ran our midnight series two of the most attended films were from Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. It's too bad his final film was Eyes Wide Shut.

I think the only two Kubrick's I've seen are Clockwork Orange and Shining... Loved ACO, hated the shining... honestly - i don't get why people like it so much...

But from this promo I saw loads of the shining references - were there any references to his other movies?

full metal jacket and dr. strangelove are on my list of must-watch movies.

Full Metal Jacket was amazing. Haven't seen it in years but I loved it.

"How can you shoot women and children?"

"Easy, just don't lead 'em as much."

So here's my Full Metal Jacket story. I saw this movie by myself in a twin theatre that was in a hotel near Pearson airport, I was a teenager then and we were on a family vacation. I can't recall the name of the hotel but I know it every time I drive by it, the name has changed half a dozen times.

So flash-forward many years later and we would one day install the two Simplex XL projectors from that theatre into the McKellar Room, they were what preceeded the projector that's there now.

I don't remember there being another set of projectors. I guess it was while I wasn't involved with Western Film for a few years. I thought we had replaced the German projectors we moved into the McKellar Room from Middlesex 110 with 2 American projectors. One of the American projectors was replaced with a platter and then used to run the 2nd theatre that was set up in the Wave one summer. I think that second projector was traded in when we bought all the new sound equipment and new screen just after I started full time.

I guess there was another set in there somewhere.

Actually, you're correct. When we traded in the German machines that came from Middlesex 110 they were replaced with the Simplex XL's that I mentioned from Toronto. If memory serves, Robert picked those up in Toronto and just moved them to us in London, which likely explains why I could never really get them to stop leaking oil, they were never properly rebuilt. Oh don't get me started down that road!!!
