Dowloading Movies, Spam and Telemarketers.

A few things I have been wondering about for a while.

As you can probably guess I'm against downloading movies. Despite what anyone says it is stealing someone else's work either in the form of the people who made the movie or those who legally show or sell the movie (such as little ol' me).

Anyway, my question is: If the public can download movies off the internet for free, who's pirating the movies and why? They aren't making any money off free downloads and they are taking the risk of getting caught.

Why do we get Spam? Everybody hates it but it keeps getting worse. I can only assume there must be some people who actually buy the products or get caught in the scams. If no one responded then there would be no reason to send the spam. Would you buy a drug from a company that has to misspell it just to get their letter to reach you? Would you believe that someone in Nigeria is willing to give you millions of dollars?

The same goes for telemarketers. If no one bought the products they are selling they wouldn't have any reason to call.

Anyway, just musing.

Copyright Act s.80 applies only to sound recordings. But that doesn't mean all movies you download are in violation of copyright law.

For example, see:

Pirates pirate movies because they can. It's a way of showing off for them, especially when the pirating scene is so crowded these days with groups trying to get the best quality rips out the fastest. Very few, if anyone, has any political agenda (i.e. believing entertainment should be free).

The main reason for downloading movies: People don't like to get ripped off.
