Bad Marketing for new Dane Cook film?

There's an interesting post over at Cinematical about the disparity between the poster for the upcoming Dane Cook / Kate Hudson film My Best Friend's Girl and the trailer. The poster makes it look like a fairly generic romantic comedy while the trailer makes it look like a funny but very adult film. Even Dane Cook doesn't like the poster. Some people really dislike Dane Cook but I like him, I guess I find him funny, most of the time. He can get a bit over the top.

So watch the trailer and let me know if you think you would be surprised if you went to see the film based on the poster.

Note: The trailer is a red-band trailer which means it contains naughty words and is NSFW.

Funny Canadian Film Fest posters.

I discovered these posters through one of my favorite movie blogs Cinematical. Never heard of the festival but they make funny posters. My favorite one is thumb nailed here.

New Poster: Righteous Kill

I thought it might be interesting to post about new movie posters as they come into Western Film. If not let me know, it was surprisingly time consuming to photograph all the recent posters that had come in.

The poster for Righteous Kill is really interesting. It's on heavy, kind of rough paper, similar to the paper in many hardcover books. It's just the names of the actors and the title. No release date or anything. The really surprising thing is the lack of any credits. There's not even a studio listed. I've never seen that before.

Poster of the Week - Dark Knight Posters -

Frequent commenter Chris Weber pointed out this new Dark Poster which we both agree really rocks.

I also noticed something interesting at Toronto based movieposter.com. They have between $84 and $183 on some Dark Knight posters. I have two different posters at work. I'll have to check to see if they are any of the expensive ones just out of curiosity. The Advance Why So Serious is the really expensive one.

Cool Slideshow of 30 Most Interesting posters for 2008 movies.

I found this on the CTV website. I haven't heard of a lot of the films so I assume they are coming out later in the year.

I got in a couple of the Indiana Jones posters. I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to put pins in them. I'll probably put them in some large plastic poster bags we have. We can them put the pins in the bag and not affect the poster. This is one poster that will be making it into my personal collection after we play the film.

Poster of the week - Quantum of Solace.

The title of the next James Bond movie is interesting if a bit unwieldy. The poster I think is one of the best I've seen. It's very simple with little text. I'm willing to bet most people would know it's a James Bond poster even without seeing the title.

Poster of the Week: Religulous

I think Bill Maher is one of the funniest people around. He uses his humour to get across a political message I usually agree with. I hope this movie plays in Canada, his TV series on HBO doesn't and that pisses me off.

The movie comes out later in the year. I'd say it's fairly easy to tell from the poster and title what the subject matter is.

My Poster Collection - E.T.

This is an original folded one-sheet for what was for a while the highest grossing film of all time. I never liked the movie much, not sure why I have the poster. movieposter.com has a rolled one for $300. If it's real it's pretty rare to find a rolled poster from that period. They have one about the same shape as mine for $80.00

A really interesting movie poster discovery.

We have been selling off old movie posters from a huge stock we have. As posters have sold out of our displays I have been refilling the displays with posters rolled up in a cabinet. We had over 650 titles with multiple copies of most so that's a lot of posters.

I was looking through the posters to fill a display and noticed a smaller than usual rolled poster that I had always thought was Escape from LA. It turned out to be an original advance for Escape from New York! It's in really good shape with only a couple pinholes. I checked on ebay and there was one on there for $455?! It was in better shape than mine but not a lot better. I was surprised at the price because ebay has generally lowered prices for most collectibles. That poster must be truly rare. I figure I'll throw mine on ebay later and see what happens.
